Friday pint

Every week I transfer posts here from the Virtual Pint archives.

On the InterWeb where time is flexible, we have nearly reached the end of 2006. That means there are only a couple more weeks of Friday pints before we are magically back in real time (whatever that means in the virtual world…)

  • Never (November 2006) — It’s a big word, one I don’t use often. But I mean it here.
  • More naked (November 2006) — The continuing conversation on where the writer is, and isn’t, in the work.
  • The conversation (December 2006) — Nearly 21 years of talking, so far. I hope for another 50 or 60 at least.

Enjoy your Friday.

  1. I’m going to miss the Friday Pints. I like looking back at how you got to here – even if I have already read them, it’s been cool to get your little comments on them and read them again.

  2. I’ll miss them too. It’s nice to be nearly caught up — I can turn out the lights at the virtual pub and stop feeling guilty for leaving it half-dismantled. But it’s been fun revisiting those conversations and thinking about them anew. I can see how self-annotation could become recursive.

Virtual Pint/this blog are the closest things I’ve ever done to keeping a journal. I’ve always found my own journaling really artificial on some level, but because I know that this is interactive, I work harder to be honest. Funny, really, since private journals are meant to be the place where we we most feel able to tell the unvarnished truth.

  3. You say, “because I know this is interactive, I work harder to be honest.” See, we don’t only depend on you to be a great writer, but want you to be a fount of attention and wisdom too(as you often are).

  4. I’ve never kept a journal either. My attempts never seemed real — I think I know what you mean about artificial.

I think your honesty brings out honesty in us – I know it encourages me to respond in kind. And I appreciate the dialogue here very much. Even when I don’t comment, I am commenting in my head and asking myself questions, I just don’t get always get around to responding here.
