The Dark Knight. July 18.
And here’s another kind of madness — what I expect will be a brilliant and masterful and lunatic tour-de-force performance from Heath Ledger, who Rolling Stone calls “mad-crazy-blazing brilliant,” and who by all accounts gave himself over to his work the way we all hope to, the way that burns. I only wish he could be here to see how people will respond.
I am looking forward to this movie like… I dunno. Like dancing to Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Like a southern summer storm, where the electricity gets right under your skin. Movies can put me straight into the heart of story, and this kind of story is where I’m living right now — big feelings, big choices, identity, exhaustion, the bright spots and shadows of the self. I am in a mood right now to see people ride their own bow wave, to see people walk their own edge, to be in the company of those who reach and reach and reach.
it’s seems to be more ‘down to earth’ version of joker (if it possible with this kind of cinema:), than that sociopath played by nicholson-more human than comic book character.
but how many reproductions are better than original movies? i’m pesimistic about this one.
ps. pardonnez-moi my writing style:)
My friend is dressing up as the Joker, and a whole bunch of us are heading to the IMAX theatre in Rhode Island for the midnight screening!!! Can’t wait!
(grin) Frankie Goes to Hollywood…I got their autographs when I was 11 years old.
I didn’t mean to be anonymous….heh.
@Lindsey — yep, I love dancing to “Relax,” I get the DJ to spin the way-extended dance version during my go-go shifts and then I just give it up (grin).
I don’t know if I’ll make the midnight screening here or not, we’ll see. I’m an official Middle-Aged Person now so who knows if I can stay up that late? But I’m thinking about it. I hope you and yours have an excellent time.
@Magda — I think this will be a more naturalistic portrayal of outright lunacy, if that makes any sense. I didn’t care for Nicholson’s Joker, but this one… all the previews I have seen, and the buzz I’ve read, suggest that Ledger was exploring the Joker as a pure force of chaos. No camp, no tortured childhood explanations, no holds barred. May not be your cup of tea (mileage varies), but I believe it will be mine…
